Baccarat Policies

Baccarat chemin de fer is gambled on with 8 decks in a shoe. Cards under 10 are worth their printed number and with Ten, Jack, Queen, King are zero, and A is one. Bets are made on the ‘bank’, the ‘player’, or on a tie (these are not really people; they just represent the two hands that are dealt).

Two cards are given to both the ‘banker’ and ‘player’. The total for each hand is the sum total of the two cards, but the first number is dumped. For instance, a hand of five and 6 has a total of one (5 plus six equals 11; ditch the initial ‘1′).

A third card could be given depending on the following rules:

- If the player or bank achieves a total of eight or nine, both players hold.

- If the player has five or lower, she hits. Players otherwise hold.

- If the player stands, the banker hits on a total lower than 5. If the player takes a card, a guide is employed to see if the bank holds or hits.
